Through focusing on materials which are response-led to place, in-depth research, a variety of documentation methods and process rather than the production of a final piece, Kate’s work explores how objects can become displaced alongside the cultural, political, economical and social effects this in turn has on and by their surroundings.

Via the process of exploration, these changes of direction are subsequently freed up and given room to gain something of a deeper meaning, value and beauty.  As a jeweller, Kate’s work aims to highlight the many different forms jewellery incorporates and how it plays a pivotal role as a marker of meaning, container of memories and as a way of sharing stories.  Through this approach and by posing the questions what makes something precious and what is jewellery, she is asking the viewer to experience contemporary jewellery in a different light and to see it as a communication aid and in turn as a way of starting new conversations.
